I am joining the sleepout in the cloisters of magnificent Durham Cathedral on the night of 30th April this year. I am Chair of DASH, a local charity in Durham providing housing and support to homeless people. DASH has been one of the charities supported by the Durham sleepout for the last few years, and we are delighted that we have been chosen again to benefit from fundraising for this event.  At DASH we believe that everyone, regardless of circumstances, should have a fundamental right to a place of shelter, and help to rebuild their life. As local authority funding for adult social care services becomes more stretched, money raised from fundraising activities becomes increasingly  important to help us continue to deliver a high quality service to our clients, and to provide added value to what we can offer.  For example, funds raised over the past year have been spent on welcome packs of basic groceries and toiletries to our residents on their arrival. We have also been able to offer training in activities aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of our residents. We couldn't do this without help from our brilliant supporters. I know that most of us have chosen charities that receive our support, but this is a particularly worthwhile cause at this moment in time, when the number of homeless people has reached crisis point nationally. Please give what you can. A small amount will make a difference.
