DASH provide a variety of volunteering opportunities which are not prescriptive volunteering roles but rather roles that are discussed and agreed with volunteers based on what DASH needs to be done and the skills, experience and interests of the particular volunteer. In other words, we match volunteers with tasks and projects and provide opportunities that help us and at the same time benefit the volunteer in terms of providing interest, experience, enjoyment and fun. Yes, we like to make volunteering an enjoyable and rewarding experience!

Some volunteering can be done remotely, at home, in college or at work and some volunteering requires the volunteer to attend at our offices or at another one of our properties. For example, we have Durham University student volunteers who volunteer for us and don’t need to visit us all the time. We also have volunteers who live and work outside of Durham who are able to volunteer remotely with the support they need without visiting our offices much or in some cases, at all.

We like to be as flexible as possible in providing worthwhile volunteering opportunities for people from a wide range of backgrounds, abilities, interests and skills.

Durham Community Action - Durham Volunteering Kite Mark

DASH achieved the County Durham Kite Mark certificate in December 2017. Securing the Kite mark shows an organisation manages a volunteering programme where volunteers receive a high quality, positive volunteering experience.

It will help volunteers to make informed choices when they apply to volunteer, and they can be reassured that DASH have the correct policies and processes in place to offer a rewarding and positive experience.

Gaining the Kite mark demonstrates that DASH meets standards to overcome barriers to volunteering, and recognises the value of recruiting and retaining volunteers as set out by Durham Community Action, whose commitment to volunteering is actively underpinned by the County Durham Compact.

Durham Community Action have produced a case study based on our volunteering programme.
