Eloise – volunteer

When starting my course in sociology and politics at Durham University, I was keen to be involved in Durham life, not just through the university but in the local community too. The disparities between the student and local populations are sometimes very stark in Durham – something which immediately drew my attention and that I wanted to find a proactive way to do something about. I was drawn to DASH because I could see that it had a sensitive and understanding approach to the issue of homelessness. Immediately, I felt welcomed by all the staff there who are very friendly and encouraging!

The staff at DASH have been brilliant in finding a tailored way I can volunteer. As I am involved in music in the university, I have been organising a fundraising concert. Personally, this has given me lots of new experience and it’s been really enjoyable! This way I hope to not only raise money, but also to involve different Durham locals and students in seeing the benefits of, and need for, DASH’s work. Volunteering for DASH has become a really important part of my time in Durham!
