The St Aidan’s Fashion Show happens each year in order to engage with a local charity to raise funds for them. This year DASH was chosen because the Fashion Show Executive decided that homelessness was a high priority issue within the Durham community, and one they wanted to contribute to.

The Exec arranged volunteering days at DASH’s offices in Gilesgate where students involved in the show helped with painting our store, up -cycling furniture and gardening work. The teams of volunteers enjoyed the experience and did a great job too!

The Fashion Show raised £11,400 for the charity which is a massive effort. It was raised through ticket sales for events hosted prior to the show, tickets for the show itself, along with raffle and auction prizes on the night. Also, each of the models were challenged with raising £50 which was added into the overall contribution from the show, with many of them surpassing that target.

As well as fund-raising and volunteering the students were very keen to engage with the charity. Trevor Atkinson gave a presentation to the Fashion Show Exec. and models which was useful in helping them to understand more about what DASH does and homelessness within Durham.

The way St Aidan’s organised the fund-raising and volunteering was fantastic, as was the way all of the students engaged with us. We are very grateful to all of them for their effort and commitment.

A film of the fashion show was made by DASH volunteer, Izzy Gale. View the film above.
