~ Moonlit Jazz Soirée for DASH ~

The finest jazz musicians from all over Durham have come together to produce an evening of words and music in aid of Durham Action on Single Housing.

So if you love jazz or are simply looking for a way to pass the time in lockdown, then tune in on Wednesday, 18th November for a night of beautiful music.

The soirée video will be released at 8:30pm on the Facebook event page, so don’t miss out!

~Appeal for 2020 Donations~

The present pandemic is dramatically impacting all spheres of our society. In such troubling times, it is often easier to take an introspective approach to our own situations and the effects upon our own lives and businesses. If we do this, so many people become forgotten. Our very own local people will suffer greater difficulty and hardship without the compassion of our community. We fully appreciate that times are difficult but we implore you to offer some level of support, however small, to assist the desperate needs of the less fortunate members of our community.

We ask that you please consider a donation, however little, to help us continue our work and support of Durham’s most vulnerable. The support that we receive is truly invaluable and makes a tangible difference to the lives of Durham’s most disadvantaged.

Students involved in St Aidan’s College Charity

Students involved in
St Aidan’s College Charity Fashion Show all took part in a couple of volunteering days at DASH, as well as each raising a target of £50. Overall, the show raised a huge total of £11,400!

The Christmas Market Stall: In Durham’s Market S

The Christmas Market Stall: In Durham’s Market Square, DASH sold a range of stock, from hats donated by a local knitting group, to outdoor clothing donated by a local business.

The items sold really well, and it was great to see so many people paying forward. For example, knitted hats were bought for a refugee group, therefore supporting 2 causes at once! Any unsold stock was later sold at DASH’s pop-up shop on North Road.

The FIRST Outreach Day for Durham University volun

The FIRST Outreach Day for Durham University volunteers: A great success 😊
We had 19 volunteers get stuck in throughout the day!

The day involved:
✅ Painting the service users’ flats in Gilesgate
✅ Helping to prepare stock for DASH’s market stall

Trevor Atkinson, DASH Business Development Manager, also thanked all students for their help. It was amazing to have such fantastic volunteers, and help DASH in a fun way.

In second term, there was another really productive Outreach Day for Durham University volunteers.

We helped:
✅ Set up an online clothes donated sale
✅ Paint flats
✅ Sort our food donations

The DASH Concert: Set in Giles Church, the concert

The DASH Concert: Set in Giles Church, the concert had a fantastic atmosphere full of both members of the community and students.

The performers were harpist Orlando Riviere, St Aidan’s Jazz Band and the University Folk Society. They played a range of music and were all super talented!

This was all organised by student volunteer Eloïse (pictured last), so a massive congratulations to her.

Residents of a Durham housing project are looking

Residents of a Durham housing project are looking forward to enjoying some home-grown fruit and vegetables, following the creation of an edible garden. The garden has been created with the help of two local groups: Edible Gilesgate and Houghall Horticultural Society.

DASH staff, volunteers and residents also worked to prepare the garden, where the produce is now growing well.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Trevor Atkinson, Business Development Manager at DASH, said: “Gardening is a great way for our residents to enjoy fresh air and exercise, and apply themselves to a project which they can enjoy. It will also be great to see fruit and vegetables growing around our building – and enjoy the food when it’s ready!”
