Mark – volunteer

I’m Mark. I’ve lived in Gilesgate since 2008 and started volunteering with DASH through my church, Emmanuel, which meets near DASH – on Belmont Industrial Estate.

In my day job I work in communications and, in addition to my group volunteering, I enjoy sharing my professional skills to help DASH. I’ve led a communications and engagement workshop for DASH staff and trustees which led to the development of a communications strategy for the charity. I’ve also helped out when the charity has been looking to engage with the local media.

I’ve found the volunteering setup at DASH really supportive and welcoming. I’ve seen that DASH works hard to offer volunteers the opportunities they’re looking for – whether that’s to use their existing skills, as with myself, or develop in new areas, or, as with my church group, just happy to help where needed. I always feel that what I do is valued and appreciated.
