The following testimonials are from stakeholders and individuals who have worked with DASH;

DASH is one of our key partners, providing a valuable service to homeless people and people at risk of homelessness. They provide accommodation and much needed support in County Durham for people with housing needs, and help them to rebuild their lives and move on into independent living. In particular DASH work with people who have chaotic lifestyles, vulnerable people with depression, mental health problems and addictions. These issues can sometimes lead them into conflict within communities and we rely on the support that DASH offers to help us deal with these incidents effectively. We value the contribution DASH make to improving the lives of homeless people.

University of Sunderland

DASH have been a valued partner of the University of Sunderland for many years providing high quality placements to students on our Social Work programme. It is important that student social workers gain an understanding of the challenges that people face in their lives and DASH gives them a great opportunity to do this and to work on both the practical and emotional aspects of supporting people. This gives them the scope  to develop their communication skills and apply knowledge from their teaching in the reality of practice. The support offered to students in placement with DASH is excellent.

I regularly contact DASH for emergency and supported accommodation. The staff I speak with are very helpful and flexible with the working procedures. They have assisted on several occasions by interviewing clients on the same day as I refer despite the normal procedure for interviewing at the project. This has led to a number of people being provided with stable accommodation the same day as I interviewed the client. Therefore the assistance provided by DASH has prevented homelessness for a number of clients.
I have also been contacted by clients after they have accessed the accommodation and they have commented on the work DASH has done to assist them is securing permanent accommodation with other housing providers.

Kevin Patterson - Housing Solutions, Durham County Council

Durham County Council have been commissioning DASH since 2003 for the provision of a range of services supporting single homeless people through the provision of accommodation based services. These vital services help service users develop and maintain the skills necessary for independent living. The portfolio of services Durham County Council funds now includes an accommodation based service for vulnerable single women. We are very pleased with the services provided and the way in which our relationship has developed over the years to one where problems are shared openly in an effort to identify opportunities to improve service delivery and outcomes for service users.

We have been providing surplus food to DASH since February 2016. DASH collect the food each week and it is used by their residents at their Vulnerable Women’s Project in Gilesgate. The work DASH does in providing accommodation and support for women with complex needs is invaluable and we are very happy to support DASH with this innovative project

Anna (Student Social Worker)

Before Christmas our adult daughter became homeless. It was her good fortune that she came to stay with you at Churchill Square in Durham. Since then you have provided her with far more help and support than we could have given. As a direct consequence of the excellent work by staff she has managed to get some stability and control in her life. She is making progress towards independent living under your care and supervision. We are deeply grateful to all those who have helped her.
